Political Briefing 2025

Myanmar Along the fault lines

Myanmar’s shattered grounds along the fault lines refer not only to the rubble left behind by the most severe earthquake this country has suffered in over 100 years along its geologically most active zone. They also refer to a country that has been threatening to collapse for years under the weight of military force, war, displacement, and international inaction linked to increasing geopolitical polarisation.

The natural disaster of March 28, 2025, has further exacerbated the already catastrophic humanitarian situation in a country whose infrastructure is destroyed, whose health system has collapsed, and whose people are fighting daily for survival. Those who look away now or who, like the US government, even extend a hand to the perpetrators are contributing to Myanmar remaining in the shadow of violence and the shadow of the earthquake. It is up to Europe to ensure that the light of solidarity, justice, and hope is not extinguished. The responsibility of the Europe is to make sure not to lose the hope of global solidarity where the equality and hope lie.
